You may know by now that Department of Telecom in India, with the consent of Court Order, has ordered all ISPs to block torrent sites all over the country in order to prevent piracy. Some of the ISPs such as Airtel and MTNL have already started blocking torrent sites, and don’t curse your Internet service provider if you’re unable to access any torrent site on your computer.
This all started with the banning of the world’s most popular torrent site – ThePirateBay. Not only in India, ThePirateBay has been permanently blocked in several countries, including Malaysia, UK and USA. The website is known for its piracy. There is no such thing that you can’t find on this site. But now you won’t be able to access this site. Medianama posted a list of torrent sites along with some popular video sharing sites which have been blocked by Indian ISPs.

I have BSNL broadband connection and I don’t think there is any ban, as of now, on these websites by BSNL. But if your ISP has blocked any torrent sites such as ThePirateBay, KickassTorrents, IsoHunt, Extratorrent or video sharing sites such as Vimeo and Dailymotion, I’m going to share some working methods, using which you’ll be able to access these websites in no time.
Accessing Blocked Websites Using Proxies
You can try using proxies to unblock blocked websites on your computer. There are numerous proxy service providers available on the Internet. Choose any from the following list below and check if it’s able to bypass restrictions. Here are some of the popular proxies you can try out now.
Hidemyass.com
Ultrafastproxy.com
Proxify.com
Ttpb.fl.ax
Rocketsurf.com
ProxyBoxOnline.com
Accessing Blocked Websites By Changing DNS Settings
You can also change the DNS settings of your computer if the block is DNS based. There are two most popular public DNS services you can trust with your eyes closed – OpenDNS and GoogleDNS. Click on the respective links to go to their sites and follow the instructions to change the DNS numbers. If you already know how to do that, you can right away change the DNS settings with these numbers:
OpenDNS Settings: 208.67.222.222; 208.67.220.220
GoogleDNS Settings: 8.8.8.8; 8.8.4.4
Accessing Blocked Websites By Using Secured Protocol
There is another easier way (Most simpler one) to access websites like ThePirateBay, Isohunt, Xmarks and Torrentz. Some users of Airtel and Reliance has confirmed that implementing the secured Hypertext transfer protocol (Https) for all the banned websites in India seems to be working. In simple words, if you use https in place of http while writing the url address of the blocked website, you’ll be able to bypass the restriction. Webtrickz has a detailed post on how to try this method out.
These are the common methods you should try when you come across any blocked websites. Any other method you feel like sharing would be appreciated.
